The Inspiration Behind Light-In-Up™

The Light-In-Up™ Tool was inspired by two enduring traditions of human understanding: meaning-centered psychology and contemplative self-awareness.

The work of Viktor Frankl, author of Man’s Search for Meaning, revealed that even in the face of profound suffering, human beings retain the freedom to choose their inner response. His philosophy demonstrated that resilience, dignity, and well-being arise not from external circumstances, but from the meaning we assign to our experiences and the attitude we carry within them.

Complementing this foundation, the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda emphasized the cultivation of inner awareness, clarity, and intentional practice as pathways to human potential. His work illuminated a timeless truth: that peace, clarity, and renewal are cultivated through conscious awareness and connection to one’s inner light, and that transformation begins from within through practice and intention.

Light-In-Up™ brings these two traditions together—the psychology of meaning and the practice of inner light—into a modern, non-clinical, and accessible daily tool. Through simple visual symbolism and guided reflection, individuals are invited to pause, reframe their inner narrative, and return to their work and lives with greater clarity, emotional balance, and purpose.

Light-In-Up™ was created by Sonya Powell, who holds two master’s degrees from Columbia University in Organizational Psychology and Mind-Body Studies. Drawing on years of professional experience and research in human behavior and organizational systems, Sonya developed the Light-In-Up™ Tool as a structured, accessible practice that helps individuals reframe stress, shift perspective, and cultivate calm and clarity in real time.
